Reflections on the paranormal

Reflections on the paranormal

We have the opportunity sometimes to speak at events and conventions, and this past weekend we attended one of my favorite events called Con Nooga in Chattanooga, Tenn. We had the chance to speak and sit in on a paranormal forum.

I'm blown away each and every time, how our field is growing and changing at the same time. It seems as if we're growing  as the spirtual world is changing. I have a lot of theories on a lot of different things involving the supernatural, and through all my investigations and research what I've found is things don't seem as simple as they used to be. I find it very reaffirming as we travel to different areas and speak to people that they sense the same things we do. I find it most interesting to listen to different people's opinions on what is happening in our world.

What really happened to Major Glenn Miller?

What really happened to Major Glenn Miller?

Glenn Miller was born Alton Glenn Miller on March 1, 1904, in Clarinda, Iowa. His parents, Elmer and Mattie Lou Miller, soon moved their family from Iowa first to Nebraska, then to Missouri, and eventually, to Fort Morgan, Colorado.

Miller went on to become America's darling, with the Glenn Miller Orchestra's unique swing music sound. Miller's band displayed a distinctive resonance in their music.

Miller's musical lifestyle followed him to Montgomery in December 1942, where after transferring to the Army Air Force, Captain Glenn Miller served initially as assistant special services officer for the Southeast Training Center at Maxwell Field, he played trombone with the Rhythmaires, a 15-piece dance band. The band played in both Montgomery and service clubs and recreation halls on Maxwell.

Miller also appeared on both WAPI (Birmingham, Ala.) and WSFA radio (Montgomery), promoting the activities of civil service women aircraft mechanics employed at Maxwell.

If you grew up like I did, enjoying old movies like "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken," then you understand the feeling of wanting to be locked in that old creepy house like Don Knotts’ character was in the movie. Who knows? Maybe that’s why I do what I do today.

The Winter Place, located minutes from downtown Montgomery at 454 South Goldwaite Street, is one of those places that captured my imagination and interest ever since I first saw the house. My whole life I've heard stories about the place being haunted. When I would ride by and look at it and when I gave my friends my local ghost tour, I would get the feeling that we were being stared back at by some ghostly presence.

Everything happens for a reason. That is an amazing thing to say, but it is most definitely true. There is significance and meaning in everything we do and with every person we encounter. I say it all the time but it was proven to me over this past weekend without a shadow of a doubt.

New Year's weekend my wife and I and another couple - whom I grew up ghost hunting with stayed at a beautiful historic Cedar Ridge bed and breakfast in Marion, Ala.

During this time of year, so many of us drift back to childhood memories. It's a season of giving. It's also a season of remembering.

On December 17, 1981, I was seven years old. My grandfather had been in the hospital for a while, and we just received word that he should be going home soon. It was around 8 p.m. and I remember just as if it was yesterday, because my view on life and death was forever changed.

There was a cot in the hospital room, which I was sitting on. My grandmother and mother walked downstairs with some other family members, and I was alone with my grandfather. While sitting there, the most dramatic moment of my life unfolded before my eyes.

As he lay in the bed watching tv, the feeling in the room changed. I felt overwhelmed by the sensation that we weren't alone. It's not a feeling I can describe clearly, even now as an adult.

'Chronicles of a Supernaturalist' tells personal experiences involving the realm of the supernatural

“Often times, the initial shadow-like appearance of these beings is merely a facade. Their true forms would normally only appear after they are weakened during a confrontation, though the dark flowing body of the being I was now facing did not seem to be an illusion.”

Chronicles of a Supernaturalist details my Montgomery based journey into adulthood while struggling with my God-given abilities and discovering my role in standing against darkness while helping others.

I draw upon a lifetime of surreal experiences in attempt to give the reader a quick glimpse behind the ethereal curtain, allowing a greater understanding of what is labeled paranormal.

The book is available online on Amazon.com, with a local book signing planned for early next year.
