Experts called in to look at city's 'lost mural'

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - City leaders thought a fire curtain was hanging way up near the ceiling of city hall behind the new council chambers - until they broke out a ladder to go check it out.

What they found was a mural that had been lost for years.

The mural, which they believed used to hang in front of the city hall stage when there were no acts performing, depicts Dexter Avenue at the turn of the century.

Historians and city officials say little is known about the mural right now, but they do believe it was painted in the 1930's. Experts will be coming in to take a closer look.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Typically, a Collision Center exists to help others clean up after accidents. One Montgomery Collision Center is now looking to clean up its own accident from the inside out.

According to authorities, an elderly woman was scheduled for an appointment with her vehicle at the Joe Hudson Collision Center on Wares Ferry Road earlier this morning. For an unknown reason, she wasn't able to make it in with her vehicle until 1:00 p.m. The woman advised police that on her way to the center, her brakes went out causing the car to veer across the median and into the parking lot where she narrowly missed a woman walking to her vehicle. The woman's car ultimately came to a rest inside the Collision Center.

Police say everyone is OK - no injuries were reported from this accident. That is, unless you count the Geico Gecko on the wall.

Truck drops mobile home on Western Boulevard

Truck drops mobile home on Western Boulevard

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department is scrambling to clean-up after an accident left a mobile home in the center of the Western Boulevard.

According to the Montgomery Police Department, authorities had to shut down part of the Western Boulevard for at least 30 minutes while the overturned mobile home was righted.

Police say an 18-wheeler pulling the mobile home exiting I-65 northbound on to the Western Boulevard maneuvered to turn east when the mobile home it was carrying shifted and overturned.

Crews on scene estimate it will take a total of two and a half hours to clear the roadway.

Traffic will flow slowly once the Boulevard is re-opened until the accident can be fully cleared. Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution.
