Special Election deadline approaching

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -Thursday is the final deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for the City Council District 7 Election.

The ballot must be returned the day before the election or mailed to arrive by noon on election day.

Election day is set for Tuesday, April 19.

Animal Advocates Rally In Montgomery to Support Animal Protection Legislation

(March 22, 2011) – Citizens from across Alabama will rally on Thursday to support legislation to strengthen animal fighting laws and to ban the use of gas chambers in shelters. The Humane Society of the United States, Alabama Voters for Responsible Animal Legislation, The Alabama Humane Federation and Alabama Animal Control Association are hosting the rally.

Important Voting Deadlines draw near for special election

MONTGOMERY - Absentee voting for the Special Election for City Council District 7 scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, 2011 continues at The Montgomery Election Center.

Registered voters living in City Council District 7 must complete an Absentee Voting Application before receiving a ballot.  An Absentee Voting Application can be obtained by calling 832-1281, downloading the application from www.montgomeryelectioncenter.org  or visiting The Montgomery Election Center at 125 Washington Avenue.

The final day to apply for an Absentee Ballot is Thursday, March 3, 2011.  Absentee voters must hand deliver their ballot to The Montgomery Election Center by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2011 or have the ballot post marked by Monday, March 7, 2011 and it must received at The Election Center by noon on Election Day.

Candidates' forum for District 7 council seat on Feb.24 at Ascension

District 7 City Council Candidate Forum:

There will be a candidate’s forum for the District 7 City Council seat this Thursday, February 24th at 6:30 pm. The forum will be at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 315 Clanton Street (corner of Clanton  and S. McDonough).

The meeting will be in the Ascension Hall at the far north end of the complex. Enter in the McDonough St. entrance. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Montgomery Director of Elections resigns

Montgomery Director of Elections resigns

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Director of Elections at the Montgomery Election Center, Trey Granger, is on to pastures that look a little more green, and a little less red and blue.

Granger told WSFA 12 News that while no firm date has been set, he has resigned his job as Director of Elections.

He will now be the new Chief Deputy Clerk at the federal court in Montgomery.

"We've done a great job in the election center." said Granger. "It is one of those rare opportunities to continue public service, just in a different capacity."

Granger hopes to be in his new position by March 1.

Grayson White Announces Candidacy for District 7 City Council Seat

MONTGOMERY, AL, January 27, 2011 -- Grayson White has earned his place on the ballot for the upcoming District 7 City Council race. The special election will be held on March 8, 2011.  Mr. White qualified on January 25, 2011, with 205 signatures from residents throughout District 7. Qualifying requires a minimum of 200 signatures from those registered to vote in the district.

 

One resident stated, “Mr. White has a strong sense of community, and desires to serve the residents of District 7 by representing their interests on the City Council.  With over 20 years of experience in running a small business, his proven leadership skills, and a love for the community, he’s prepared to work for the residents of District 7 in addressing the issues and moving the area forward.”
