Veselinovic earns Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team accolades | People
Auburn University at Montgomery senior women’s tennis All-American Ana Veselinovic has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Second-Team, which was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® men’s and women’s at-large teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
The at-large program for the Capital One Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, bowling, crew and field hockey for women.
In order to qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have been voted to the Capital One Academic All-District First-Team and be a starter or significant contributor with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at his or her institution. Student-athletes must also have completed one calendar year at their institution and reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Veselinovic, who hails from Herceg-Novi, Montenegro, sports a 3.59 cumulative GPA, while majoring in sports management. Earlier this season, she was selected to the Southern States Athletic Conference’s All-Academic team for the third consecutive season.
During her final season, Veselinovic was dominant as she finished 23-2 in singles matches, playing all but one match at the top position. She was also 28-0 in doubles play, seeing action exclusively at the No. 1 position. She won her final six singles matches and posted a 10-2 record against ranked opponents. Veselinovic was also selected the Marvin P. Richmond Outstanding Player of the 2012 tournament.
Veselinovic and the Warhawks capped their 2012 season with their second consecutive national championship, defeating Embry-Riddle, 5-2, in the title match. AUM finished the season with a 26-2 record.
