MPD launching death investigation after body found near Greil Memorial

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- Montgomery Police have confirmed they are conducting a death investigation after a body was found on McCarter Avenue near the now closed Greil Memorial Psychiatric Hospital.

Authorities say a body was found in the 2300 block of McCarter Road. Detectives spent the afternoon at a house investigating the incident.

Police are releasing few details about the investigation. The sight of so many police cars left some neighbors stunned.

"I was actually shocked just to see all of those units down there," said Stacy Trantham, a neighborhood watch captain. "It really sort of kind of rattled me just a little bit."

Trantham said neighbors had been concerned about suspicious activity at the house over the past few months.

No additional details are available at this time.

Montgomery serial rapist pleads guilty to 12 counts

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The Montgomery man police say used social media to lure his victims to be raped has pleaded guilty to 12 counts relating to the rapes of five women.

At the time of his arrest, authorities called 22-year-old Roderikus Alloway a serial rapist and sexual predator. He has now pleaded guilty to five counts of first degree rape, six counts of first degree sodomy and one count of forcible sexual touching.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, the series of rapes occurred from February of 2012 through April 2012.

Alloway would contact women via text message and phone calls in order to form a relationship with them. He would eventually invite the women over to his apartment in the Fox Run apartment complex off of Calmar Drive.

When the women would arrive he would pull them into a dark vacant apartment and threaten them with a hammer.

CRASH VIDEOS: MPD is watching you with 10 new red light cameras

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The odds of being caught running a red light in the city of Montgomery just tilted a little more in law enforcement's favor with the installation of 10 new red light cameras that became operational last Friday.

Authorities say these additional cameras are part of the city's automated traffic enforcement program that targets specific intersections to increase safety and prevent crashes.

When a vehicle runs a red light where a camera is installed, the system will catch three images of the violation. The first image shows the vehicle before crossing the while line while the light is red, the second shows the vehicle in the intersection and the third image shows a close-up of the license plate of the vehicle in question.

Starting on Friday, May 10, drivers who run red lights at the following intersections can smile pretty for the camera and brace themselves for a fee - there will be no grace period with the new cameras:
