Alabama Broadcasters pick ASU's radio station AGAIN as a WINNER! | News
The“Voice of Alabama State University,” WVAS Radio, again won several awards from the Alabama Broadcasters Association during its annual awards banquet in Birmingham. The March 23 award ceremony recognized “Alabama’s Best in Broadcasting” - otherwise known as the ABBY's - and WVAS continued in its tradition of the last several years of taking home a lions-share of awards. This year it again set a record for the most awards won by an Alabama radio station - commercial or public - as ASU's radio station nabbed five ABBY awards in the Medium Market category.
Best PSA -- "Car Donation"
Best Sportscaster -- Robb Taylor
Best News Reporter -- Melanie Hogan (third year in a row she has won this award).
Best Newscast -- 6/12/12 (East Montgomery Stand-Off/Search for Auburn Shooter).
Public Service Project -- Halloween Spooktacular (with Montgomery County Sheriff's Office).
WVAS station manager Candy Capel said she is proud of her team.
"The staff members of WVAS are truly a team, and their superior efforts have been awarded time and again. This year, we set a record again for the most awards won by an Alabama radio station, commercial or public,” Capel said. “How can you not be proud of this group of spectacular achievers?"
