The NAIA released its first Men’s Tennis Coaches’ Top 25 Poll of the season yesterday, with Auburn Montgomery holding on to its preseason No. 2 spot.
The Warhawks received two of the 12 first place votes in the poll. Defending national champion Embry-Riddle remained at No. 1, receiving nine first place votes. Vanguard, Lindsey Wilson and Westmont round out the top five. With 302 points, AUM is just eight points behind the Eagles for the top spot.
The Southern States Athletic Conference has four teams represented in the rankings, with William Carey (No. 6), Belhaven (No. 12) and Coastal Georgia (No. 24) joining AUM. Lee, which was swept 9-0 by the Warhawks on Tuesday, is among the schools receiving votes.
AUM has received contributions from all eight players in the team’s 4-1 start. Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff is undefeated at 5-0 from No. 1 singles, while Tim Hewitt is 3-1 at the No. 2 position. Josh Reason is a combined 5-0 in singles and doubles.
As a team, the Warhawks have gone 24-6 in singles and 12-3 in doubles in their first five matches.
AUM returns to action next Friday with a road matchup at William Carey. The match begins at 2 p.m.
