ASU trustees delay decision on hiring search firm

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)- The Alabama State University committee that was formed to help find a new president for the Montgomery-based college has delayed a decision on whether to hire a private firm to assist with the search.

The president of the ASU Board of Trustees, Elton Dean, said Friday that a decision would be made at the committee's next meeting.

Some committee members say hiring a search firm will be expensive. The chairman of the search committee, Marvin Wiggins, estimates it could cost about $100,000.

The president of the ASU Alumni Association, Bea Forniss, says ASU officials could do the same work for less.

The new leader will replace former President Joseph Silver, who signed a severance agreement with the university after serving less than three months as president.
