MONTGOMERY —During the past three days, MPD has recorded the thefts of six motor vehicles that were stolen when left unlocked and running by owners who were attempting to warm them prior to driving. With the recent cold weather and several months of cooler weather still expected, MPD cautions residents to protect their vehicles from would-be thieves.
For owners attempting to warm their vehicles before driving, MPD recommends that the vehicle is not left unattended. Officers encourage residents to be aware of their surroundings, especially in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. A vehicle left running, unsecured and unattended can be stolen in a matter of seconds.
Police urge residents to refrain from leaving a running vehicle unattended. Owners should always check the user manual for safety protocols and available anti-theft devices.
