Montgomery Habitat for Humanity warns of possible phone solicitation fraud

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery Habitat for Humanity wants to make sure people know they are not soliciting donations by phone after they received a report of someone calling requesting donations on their behalf.

The nonprofit housing ministry says they received a call from an elderly gentleman trying to confirm that they were soliciting donations by telephone. He had been contacted by a "well-spoken, professional sounding man" and had given his credit card number so that he could make a monthly donation.

The man was informed that Montgomery Habitat for Humanity was not soliciting donations by phone at this time. He has since canceled his card.

The Montgomery Police Department confirms that they have also received a call in reference to this issue.

Montgomery Habitat for Humanity wants to assure the public that calls of this nature are not coming from their organization.
