Child dead following weekend church van accident | News
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A wreck involving a church van on the way home from Sunday services and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of a child over the weekend.
The Compassion 21 Van was traveling at the intersection of South Court Street and South Street when it collided with a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. A young passenger in the van, 9-year-old Joy Carlisle, was killed.
The Compassion 21 Van is used on Sundays by the Inner City Church of Christ to take people to and from services. The van was transporting passengers home from church service when the accident happened.
The driver of the Pontiac was taken to the hospital for the treatment of minor injuries. He was issued citations at the hospital for no driver's license and no proof on insurance at the time of the accident. Police say they're not at a point where they can determine an exact cause of the crash at this time.
