Eastdale Mall to hold Teen Team tryouts May 6 & 7

 

Montgomery, Ala. (May 2, 2013) – Eastdale Mall is looking for enthusiastic young men and women who are interested in helping their community and have a love of fashion to be part of the 2013-2014 Eastdale Mall Teen Team.

The Eastdale Mall Teen Team is a select group of local high school students committed to serving their community, promoting fun and fashion, and providing positive leadership for young people in the River Region. Teen Team members participate in many exciting events, including modeling in fashion shows, helping with promotional events, participating in service projects, and representing Eastdale Mall at events held throughout the community.

MONTGOMERY—Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum will host an exhibit this month featuring a selection of paintings by local artist Pamela Boggs of Montgomery.

Exploring a wide range of themes and subject matters with a unique visual style, “Truth & Spirit: The Paintings of Pamela Boggs,” will be on display inside the exhibit hall from May 6 to June 28.

Part of the long and honored tradition of self-taught artists in Alabama, Boggs’ paintings draw viewers into a greater understanding of life’s joys, struggles and mysteries through the representation of dreams, visions and events from everyday life, said Daniel Neil, curator of the Rosa Parks Museum.

B.A.S.S. to Host Bassmaster Elite Series Alabama River Charge Presented by Star brite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – April 30, 2013— B.A.S.S. will host the Alabama River Charge presented by Star brite, May 9 – 12, on the Alabama River in Montgomery, Ala., the fifth of eight Bassmaster Elite Series professional bass fishing tournaments scheduled in 2013.

 

One hundred of the top bass anglers in the world will compete for a $100,000 prize and coveted entry into the 2014 Bassmaster Classic to be held in Birmingham, Ala., with fishing on Lake Guntersville. Among the field of competitors will be fishing legend Kevin VanDam, 2013 Bassmaster Classic Champion Cliff Pace and 16 Alabama anglers.

 

From watching the first boats launch at 6:30 a.m. on Thurs., May 9, and the final weigh-in at the Montgomery Riverfront on Sunday at 3:15 p.m., to participating in the family-friendly Elite Series Expo, the activities planned throughout the weekend are free and open to the public, including:

Faulkner University to host graduation ceremonies May 3

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Faulkner University will host its annual graduation ceremonies this Friday, May 3, at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center in Montgomery.

The keynote speaker at Friday’s graduation ceremonies will be Dr. Jeff Langham, superintendent of the Elmore County (Alabama) Public Schools and a 1978 graduate of Faulkner. Langham was Faulkner’s 2012 Alumnus of the Year.

An estimated 550 students are expected to graduate during commencement ceremonies planned for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All one-year degree programs will participate in the 2 p.m. ceremony, with all other programs included in the 10 a.m. commencement. Lee High School to host “Life After High School College and Career Night”

Lee High School will host “Life After High School College and Career Night” for all Montgomery Public School juniors,  seniors and their parents on Tuesday, April 30, from 5-8 p.m.  at the school. The event will include college recruiters from 15 colleges and universities and the armed forces, as well as informational sessions on applying for college.

MCCC Announces Free Document Shredding Event

MCCC Announces Free Document Shredding Event

Montgomery, Alabama, April 29, 2013 - Montgomery Clean City Commission, City Councilman Richard Bollinger, MAX Credit Union, AARP Alabama and Gilmore Services will be offering on-site document destruction on Friday, May 3rd from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.


The event, which is being sponsored by District 1 City Councilman Richard Bollinger, is free and open to the public. To help fight back against identity theft, the public is encouraged to bring up to five bags or boxes of old personal information to a mobile shredding truck that will be located in the Paterson Field parking lot at 1201 Madison Avenue.


The event is intended for private residential document shredding, not for business or company disposal. No advance document sorting is necessary as shredding equipment can destroy paperwork with paper clips, staples or rubber bands attached.

Lt. Governor Ivey launches 'Ending Child Hunger in Alabama' campaign

Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey will launch the “Ending Child Hunger in Alabama” campaign at Wares Ferry Road Elementary School in Montgomery, Monday, April 29, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.. “Ending Child Hunger in Alabama” is the first initiative of the newly established Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn University. Lieutenant Governor Ivey serves as the campaign spokesperson.

With nearly one-third of Alabama’s children living in families that experience food hardships, the goal of the campaign is to move Alabama into the top 25% of states with the highest degree of child food security by 2020.
