Success Unlimited Academy to host community health fair

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Success Academy Unlimited will be hosting a community-wide health fair on Saturday, September 17th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., as a way to reach out to the community and improve the lives of the citizens of Montgomery.

The health fair will feature blood pressure screenings, flu shots, a drug prevention booth, eye screenings and a blood drive.  And the Family Guidance Center will be there with pamphlets and information.

In addition to the health screenings, there will be plenty of other fun and exciting activities including demonstrations by Pampered Chef, a bake sale, blow up bowling from Bama Lanes and visits by local authors.  There will also be goodies from Nancy's Italian Ice, as well as popcorn and other treats for kids.

The Success Unlimited Academy SGA, Fine Arts Department and Athletes will be volunteering, so please come out and be part of this exciting day.

Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts to host double exhibition opening and lecture

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts will host an exhibition opening on Thursday, September 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. The exhibition opening will feature 1934—A New Deal for Artists and The Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design. Following the exhibition opening, guests can enjoy a lecture from 7 to 8 P.M. called Wild About Chairs by Dr. Diane Jacobson, the collector of the objects featured in the exhibition The Art of the Seating exhibition.

MAX4Kids Foundation Hits the Greens for Kids

(Montgomery, Ala.) — The MAX4Kids Foundation, sponsored by MAX Credit Union, will host its 12th annual charity golf tournament on Wednesday, October 19, at the Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Golf Trail in Prattville, Ala.

 

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit select River Region children’s charities and the MAX4Kids Scholarship program which will award $50,000 in scholarships to ten high school seniors in May 2012. 

 

“The annual golf tournament is the foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year,” said D.G. Markwell, president of the MAX4Kids Foundation.  “Through MAX4Kids, fantastic organizations and individuals who serve our community are able to make a huge impact on children in the River Region.”

 

The 2010 tournament set records for golfer participation, sponsorship and fundraising, with 190 players and 100 corporate sponsors, netting more than $30,000 for MAX4Kids.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Calling all super heroes! Super Grover needs your help – and it’s Elmo and the Fabulous Five to the rescue when this fantastic musical production zooms into Montgomery. Join Elmo, Zoe, Abby Cadabby, Telly Monster and Zoe’s pet rock Rocco for Sesame Street Live “Elmo’s Super Heroes” at Montgomery Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and Wednesday, Nov. 16. Tickets for all three performances are on sale now!

 

When Super Grover loses his superness, Sesame Street needs a hero! Never fear, Elmo and his team of super heroes are here. Teaching lessons of healthy habits through song and dance, Elmo, Abby Cadabby and your favorite Sesame Street friends will explore exercise, nutrition, sleep/energy and hygiene – all in a quest to put the “super” back in Super Grover. It’s Elmo’s Super Heroes to the rescue!

On Friday, October 28th, the Montgomery Clean City Commission is teaming up with AARP Alabama, MAX Credit Union and Gilmore Services to offer on-site document shredding from 7:00 a.m.
