Man already in jail for burglary arrested for 2012 homicide | Crime
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department has arrested a Montgomery man for a Dec. 2012 homicide - and they didn't have far to look, he was already behind bars in connection with a January burglary.
Authorities say 19-year-old Roderick Blue has been charged with one count of capital murder in connection with the Dec. 13, 2012 shooting death of 35-year-old Jerome Dunklin.
Blue was already being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility in connection with the January burglary of Trendz Men and Boys store on South Court Street.
Dunklin, classified as the city's 32nd homicide of 2012, was originally believed to be the victim of a car crash.
Montgomery Police say that police and fire medics responded to the scene of a traffic accident at 10:45 p.m. on Thurs. Dec. 13, 2012, at the intersection of South Perry Street and Mt. Vernon Road.
Upon arrival, authorities located Dunklin who had sustained life-threatening injuries. Dunklin was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Further medical evaluation determined that Dunklin had sustained a gunshot wound which was the cause of his death.
Blue is still in custody at the Montgomery County Detention Facility where he is being held without bond.
With this arrest, MPD has charged suspects in 27, or 84 percent, of the city’s 32 homicides last year.
No additional information is available for release relative to this ongoing investigation.
