Police seeking man who tried to lure child away from park

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery police are asking everyone to see if they can identify a man from a composite drawing - the man is wanted for questioning after a young girl said he tried to lure her away from a park.

Montgomery police say that an 8-year-old girl was approached at Buddy Watson Park on Friday, May 18. The child was attending a ball game with her family when she was approached by the male subject while visiting the concession stand.

Reports state that the subject spoke to the child, however he made no attempt at physical contact. The girl ran back to her parents, frightened but uninjured.

The incident was reported to police on Wednesday, May 23. In the course of the investigation, MPD developed a composite sketch of an individual whom police describe as a person of interest. He is believed to be a white male,  5’10-6’00’, slim build, 60-70 years old, with a gray mustache, wearing an orange polo-style shirt, blue cap and old dress shoes. Police ask anyone who may recognize this individual to call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, Secret Witness at 262-4000, or the Montgomery Police Department at 625-2831.

Police Chief Kevin Murphy said it is important for parents and caregivers to always keep a watchful eye on children. He said MPD works in partnership with Parks and Recreation to provide a safe environment at city parks for children and families. Extra security is being provided at the parks.
