MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department has confirmed they are working the scene of an armed robbery of a business on Atlanta Highway, the incident moved into a local neighborhood where an officer involved shooting occurred.

According to authorities, a robbery around 2:30 this afternoon in the 300 block of Atlanta Highway. The robbery was of a title loan-type business. The 19-year-old male suspect fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.

A K9 Officer deployed in the area picked up the scent of the robber and followed it to a shed belonging to a residence in the neighborhood. The suspect attempted to flee again when K9 "Bodi" involved the suspect. The suspect shot the K9 multiple times, including at least one shot to the face, after it attached itself to the suspect. Bodi was able to hold on to the suspect in an attempt to protect its handler.The suspect exchanged fire with Montgomery Police Officers and was eventually shot in the leg.

The suspect is in custody at this time and is getting treatment for his injuries at a local hospital. Bodi was rushed to a veterinary hospital for treatment. Bodi is in danger of losing an eye, however authorities seem optimistic about his condition.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety confirms that the ABI has been brought in to investigate this incident due to the officer-involved shooting.

Both Lee High School and Capitol Heights Junior High were placed on lockdown for a short time as a result of police activity in the area responding to this incident.
