MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The Alabama AARP has selected a Montgomery doctor to receive the Andrus Award for community service.
Dr. Martha Poole Simmons was selected for the Andrus Award for her contributions in bettering the community in ways that support AARP's mission, vision, and strategic direction in which inspire others to volunteer. Dr. Simmons will be presented the award on Dec. 9 at Carrabba's Italin Grill on the Eastern Blvd.
For the past seven years, Dr. Simmons has volunteered with the American Red Cross locally and as an emergency responder following disasters in other parts of the country. She helped victims of Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, the Nemo snowstorm and several other disasters.
