'Wings of Opportunity' author to speak at Capital City Club luncheon

 In anticipation of the upcoming dedication of the Wright Brothers Park, the Capital City Club is having a luncheon on Wednesday, June 26, featuring Julie Hedgepeth Williams, author of Wings of Opportunity: The Wright Brothers in Montgomery, Alabama, 1910. Dr. Williams is Associate Professor of Journalism at Samford University.

Gathering time for the luncheon will be at 11:30.  The cost of the luncheon is $20 and is open to the public.  The Club requests cash or check.  Club members may charge their meal on their Club account. Dr. Williams will have copies of her book for puchase at the price of $21. 

The Club is located on the 21st floor of 201 Monroe Street. Free parking is available accross the street in the parking deck. Please enter the deck on Lawrence Street.

The newest rising country music star Rachele Lynae will perform on June 22.  Lynae will be performing at I-92 WLWI-FM'S In the Country Music Festival taking place at Montgomery Motorsports Park on Saturday, June 22. Gates will open at 10:00 a.m. with Rachele taking the stage at 11:45 a.m.

Rosa Parks Museum to host exhibit by local artist Pamela Boggs

 

MONTGOMERY—Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum will host an exhibit this month featuring a selection of paintings by local artist Pamela Boggs of Montgomery.

Exploring a wide range of themes and subject matters with a unique visual style, “Truth & Spirit: The Paintings of Pamela Boggs,” will be on display inside the exhibit hall from May 6 to June 28.

Part of the long and honored tradition of self-taught artists in Alabama, Boggs’ paintings draw viewers into a greater understanding of life’s joys, struggles and mysteries through the representation of dreams, visions and events from everyday life, said Daniel Neil, curator of the Rosa Parks Museum.

Beth Nielsen Chapman performance rescheduled

Beth Nielsen Chapman, hit songwriter and musical performer was scheduled to return to the Capri Theatre in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, April 27. Due to health reasons, the concert has been postponed.

The Beth Nielsen Chapman Concert scheduled for April 27 has been moved one week to Saturday, May 4. Beth was ill and her doctor told her not to sing. All tickets from the April 27 show will be honored. Beth will also be conducting a writers workshop on Saturday, May 5 at the Cloverdale Playhouse.

From writing hits for other artists to recording hits of her own, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Nashville based singer-songwriter has truly embraced musical diversity. A breast cancer survivor, inspirational speaker, teacher of workshops and lecturer on the magic of creativity, (which she believes is the birthright of everyone) Beth's passion, when you get right down to it, is still 'the song'.

Beth Nielsen Chapman, hit songwriter and musical performer will return to the Capri Theatre in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, April 27. Tickets for the show, a benefit for the Capri Theatre, are on sale now.

Besides the performance by Chapman, April 27 will be the day the Capri Community Film Society will make the final payment on the loan it took out to in 2010 to purchase the Capri Theatre.

"We are excited to finally own the building, free and clear," said Capri Theatre Director Martin McCaffery,"and it is wonderful to have Beth Nielsen Chapman here to help us celebrate this landmark achievement."

Chapman, currently finishing a tour of Europe, is no stranger to the Capri Theatre. She was last at the Capri Theatre in July of 2011 to help with fundraisng efforts to buy the Theatre.
