Three Montgomery homicides in 24 hours all linked

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Two murder victims found Tuesday at a Montgomery home are connected to a third murder victim found Wednesday, according to investigators.

Eighty-eight year old Vincyid Saffold and 42-year-old Herman Caffey were found shot to death at a home on Morgan Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Police located Caffey's body in a storage shed behind the residence and Saffold's body in her bedroom. Autopsies confirm both died from gunshot wounds.

The body of 51-year-old Robert Kendrick, Saffold's son, was found by a pedestrian Wednesday afternoon near Old Hayneville Road, approximately 400 yards from Catoma Creek. The cause of Kendrick's death is not currently known.

Kendrick is not considered the suspect in Tuesday's homicides. Authorities say they have no suspects, but say they're starting to "connect the dots".

Two bodies found at house in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Police in Montgomery have a death investigation on their hands after someone reported finding two bodies on the city's west side.

Tuesday afternoon, officers arrived at a home on Morgan Avenue after receiving a 911 call.  Officers found the bodies of a woman and a man in two separate spots on the property.  Investigators found the woman inside the house and the man's body in a backyard shed.

Authorities won't officially identify the pair, but they did notify family members on the scene. Residents say an elderly woman lived at the house with her boyfriend.

Police won't discuss how the pair died, only calling the case a "death investigation."

Local reaction to government report on Toyota accelerators

Posted by: Melissa McKinney - bio | email

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - "The jury is back...the verdict is in. There is no electronic based cause for unintended high speed acceleration in Toyotas, period," says United States Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

While he believes the case is closed, Graham Esdale at the Montgomery-based Beasley Allen law firm says Toyota isn't out of the woods yet.

"We think the book is still open," says Esdale.

Esdale is confident he has research and testimony from victims in Toyota crashes to prove electronics are still a factor with the cars' accelerators.

"We know this is occurring and it's occurring in much greater numbers in Toyotas despite some contrary evidence of what NASA looked at."

Black Cloud Reigns over NFL after Super Bowl

The 111 million people who viewed the Super Bowl can't possibly be wrong.  Or can they?

After the most watched Super Bowl in history concluded, the NFL is left to deal with an issue that has overshadowed yet another brilliant season in the healthiest sport in America today.

With the collective bargaining agreement between the owners and the players set to expire next month, both sides must decide if they are willing to risk alienating those 111 million people by trying to fix something that clearly isn’t broken.

Maybe the clash between the Steelers and Packers, two of the NFL’s most storied franchises, was a parting gift from the football gods because they knew of the turbulence ahead for the future of the game.

The initial talks between both sides were held in Dallas last Saturday, and while both sides laid out their agendas, no progress seemed to be made.
