Man sentenced to life for murder, arson

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The person accused of stabbing a Montgomery County man to death and setting his mobile home on fire learned his sentence in a Montgomery courtroom.

Thomas Wagner pleaded guilty to Murder, Arson in the Second Degree and Burglary in the Third Degree for the January 2009 murder of 44-year-old Steven Reece.

Reece was found stabbed to death in his partially-burnt mobile home. Investigators say the home was set on fire to cover up the crime.

Wagner was sentenced to life in prison for each of the three charges.

Alabama State University’s Career Services to Host Annual Teachers Fair on Friday

Alabama State University’s Office of Career Services will host its annual Teachers Fair on Friday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Recruiters from more than 30 school districts will be in attendance to speak to students and alumni about potential employment opportunities.

“The importance of this event is to bring in actual school systems looking for teaching, coaching and administration positions,” said Ella Tucker, coordinator of career programs. “We want to provide our students with an opportunity to investigate what school systems are offering. This event also may give others opportunities for interviews and jobs.”

Participating school systems will include representatives from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Virginia and more.

All students majoring in education are encouraged to attend. Students must dress professionally and juniors and seniors should have resumes available to leave with recruiters.

ASU Students Get Opportunity to Study Abroad in South Korea

Alabama State University students will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in Korean culture this summer during a study abroad trip to South Korea.

Students selected for this unique opportunity will participate in a four-week program in July at The University of Ulsan (UOU) in South Korea.

In addition to traditional lectures, the program includes field trips to Hyundai manufacturing sites, a trip to a Buddhist mountain retreat, a home stay for a weekend with a Korean family, and visits to government institutions, including the presidential palace in Seoul.

"Participation in this program in Korean culture will provide ASU students with an outstanding international experience that should serve them well if they aspire to careers in the international arena," said Dr. Thomas Vocino, executive director of ASU’s Center for Leadership and Public Policy, which is sponsoring the program.
