Police chase ends in head-on crash on I-85

Police chase ends in head-on crash on I-85

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery Police say the two-vehicle, head-on collision near the I-85/I-65 Interchange late Tuesday night happened after MPD officers chased a stolen vehicle that fled south in the northbound lane of I-85.

A little after 11:00 p.m., police started chasing the 2003 White Ford Crown Victoria on I-85 southbound near Union Street. The driver of the stolen vehicle turned west onto South Street, turned left on Court Street and crossed I-85 going south before turning onto the exit ramp and heading onto I-85 in the wrong direction.

According to a news release from the MPD, the officers then terminated pursuit, with one police vehicle following at a distance on the inside shoulder. Before the stolen Ford could merge from I-85 onto I-65, it hit a northbound vehicle.
