Warhawks prepare for four-team regional at Lindsey Wilson

After an entire regular season spent in the NAIA top 10, and a first place finish in the Southern States Athletic Conference West Division, the Auburn Montgomery softball team will look to keep its momentum going at the upcoming NAIA National Championship Opening Round at Lindsey Wilson.

The Warhawks (41-10) will be the top seed in the four-team regional. They are joined by host Lindsey Wilson (No. 2), Davenport (No. 3) and Grand View (No. 4), with only one team advancing to the National Championships in Columbus, Ga., from May 24-30.

Efforts surrounding 'Prevention Week Alabama' include events and public education

Governor Robert Bentley recently proclaimed May 12-18 as Prevention Week in Alabama, coinciding with the National Prevention Week observance. Sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, NPW is dedicated to increasing awareness of, and action around, substance abuse and mental health issues. It serves to promote prevention efforts, provide education about behavioral health and strengthen community partnerships.

This year's theme, "Your voice. Your choice. Make a difference.," emphasizes that the prevention of substance abuse and promotion of mental health starts with the choices people make in their own lives.

Dr. Maranda Brown, director of the Office of Prevention Services in ADMH’s Division of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, says, “The Office of Prevention Services is extremely excited to celebrate the 2nd annual NPW observance.

2013 Cloverdale-Idlewild Spring Concert Series continues

The 2013 Cloverdale- Idlewild Spring Concert Series continues with Sunday's performer:

  • Matt Morgan. He's been here before and he's our special gift to your mom on this Mother's Day, so invite her to come with you.

A different band or musician will be performing each Sunday afternoon through May at the Gazebo at Cloverdale Bottom Park (on the corner of Cloverdale Road and Ponce de Leon) at 4 p.m.

Bring your chairs or blankets (or both), coolers and snacks. Plan to sit under the beautiful oak trees in the park setting and enjoy the music. Looney's Skating Rink will be providing inflatables for the kids and the Pine Bar will be providing restroom facilities.

One day camp offered for Montgomery area youth at Campton Bowl and Houston Hill Community Center

On Saturday, June 8th , Cramton Bowl and Houston Hill Community Center will be filled with youth from the Montgomery Area for a special one day football camp for boys and a volleyball camp for girls to kick off the summer. Camp P.R.I.D.E, Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence, is a unique opportunity for teens from the tri-county area. The camp focuses on character building, handling peer pressure, decision making, and physical health. Professional players, college athletes and coaches from across the state will be involved to share life stories and to participate in various drills, activities, and relays with the young men and women at the camp. The camp is free for all participants. Participants will be given lunch, t-shirts, and other take away items. There are still registration slots available and opportunities for sponsorship. U.S. Marshals join in hunt for dangerous Montgomery Co. escapee

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is joining the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Central Alabama CrimeStoppers in asking for the public's help to find a man who walked off of a work detail Thursday afternoon. 42-year-old Randy Earl Washington is considered an armed and dangerous individual.

Washington was ten months into a year-long sentence on a misdemeanor attempting to elude charge from Montgomery County. He had been assigned trustee status, and was allowed to go out on work details.

Meanwhile, Sheriff's Office officials confirm to WSFA 12 News that Washington should not have been on work detail at all.  Court records show Washington is wanted for attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief third degree out of Bibb County related to a 2010 incident.

Police searching for armed robbery suspect after incident outside of Eastdale Mall

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery Police say they are searching for an armed robbery suspect after a Wednesday night incident outside of Eastdale Mall.

Police say they responded to an armed robbery around 9:20 p.m. on May 8 in the 3500 block of Eastdale Circle.

A family member of the victim called WSFA 12 news to say a man who works at a store in the mall and his female manager were held up at gunpoint as they were leaving to drop off the night deposit.

At this time police say this incident is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
