Public urged to be on lookout for violent suspect who pulled gun on 2 victims

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- The Montgomery Police Department and Central Alabama CrimeStoppers are urging the public to be on the lookout for a violent man after they say he pulled a gun on two people Tuesday. The victims say the man threatened to kill them.

The suspect is identified as 31-year-old Carlos Montez Jones. Jones was last seen in a 2006 gray Cadillac CTS with Alabama license plate 3A70T83.

Authorities say Jones is currently on probation for assault in the 2nd degree. He's now wanted on domestic violence harassment, menacing and probation revocation.

If you see Jones, do not approach him. He should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.

If you know Jones' whereabouts, you are asked to call police immediately. You can also call CrimeStoppers anonymously at 215-STOP.

Tips that lead to Jones' capture may be eligible for a cash reward.

AL state workers to be eligible for first merit raise in 5 years

MONTGOMERY, AL (AP)- Many Alabama state employees are going to get their first raises in five years. Gov. Robert Bentley says he plans to reinstate merit raises starting Jan. 1.

State employees got their last merit raises and cost-of-living raises in late 2008. There have been none since then because the recession affected state tax collections.

Bentley signed a letter saying state employees have been asked to do more with less for several years, and it's time to resume merit raises. They can be up to 5 percent annually for meritorious performance.

The executive director of the Alabama State Employees Association, Mac McArthur, said the organization has worked with the governor and Legislature for several months to resume the raises, and it is great news for employees who've seen their pay eroded by inflation.

Air show presence may help bring jobs to state

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- Make no mistake, Alabama officials are pulling out all the stops.

"We had a great, great contingent of folks here all the way from the governor's office, we had a couple congressmen, other state leaders from major companies," says Andalusia Mayor Earl Johnson.

Johnson's city is already home to some aerospace manufacturers.

That and Andalusia's proximity to Mobile mean his eye is on Airbus suppliers.

"You sit down face to face with the decision makers of the companies. And this is where you see all of the CEO's and the presidents and the vice executive presidents."

"I had an executive tell me if you were not in Alabama or trying to come to Alabama you didn't understand what was going on. So that's just good news for all," says Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange.
